Hongkong'S Retail Sales Volume Increased By 7.9% In September
The Hongkong census and Statistics Department released the latest retail sales figures.
The estimated value of total retail sales in September 2014 was HK $37 billion 600 million, an increase of 4.8% over the same month in 2013.
The revision of the value of total retail sales in August 2014 is estimated to be 3.5% higher than that in the same period in 2013.
Compared with the same period in 2013, the value of total retail sales decreased by 0.4% in the first nine months of 2014.
After deducting the price changes during the period, the total retail sales volume in September 2014 increased by 6.6% compared with the same month in 2013.
The revision of the total retail sales volume in August 2014 is estimated to be 2.8% higher than that in the same period in 2013.
Compared with the same period in 2013, the total number of retail sales in the first nine months of 2014 dropped by 0.3%.

The sales value of the main categories ranged from high to low. Compared with September 2013, the value of sales of jewellery, clocks and precious gifts increased by 2.7% in September 2014.
Followed by supermarket goods (sales value increased by 2.1%); clothing (increased by 7.9%); drugs and cosmetics (up 9%); electrical and photographic equipment (up 0.2%); other unclassified consumer goods (up 12.2%); miscellaneous consumer durables (up 70.3%); automobiles and

Parts (up 15%); fuel (up 0.8%); footwear, related products and other clothing accessories (up 5.4%); newspapers, stationery and gifts (up 8.9%); Chinese herbs (up 0.4%); and optical stores (up 7.6%).
On the other hand, compared with the same month in September 2014, the sale value of goods in department stores decreased by 2.8% in September 2014.
Followed by food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco (sales value fell by 9.1%), and furniture and fixtures (down 4.4%).

The total retail sales increased by 5.7%, while seasonally adjusted retail sales increased by 5.8%.
